Did you know that Jennifer & Billy Frist Hall is open? The grand opening ceremony took place on Sunday, August 18. This new 40,000-square-foot building houses the Thos, Coltrane & Isabel Halmi Dining Hall for grades 5-12, the state-of-the-art Anne Potter Wilson Learning Commons (library, media, technology hub) for grades K-12, and all core administrative offices including the Head of School, Development, Business, Events/Logistics, Communications and the Jack C. Massey Admission Office.
Facts about the space:
Thos, Coltrane & Isabel Halmi Dining Hall
The new dining space features seating for 240 students and staff at round tables of eight, supporting our intentional goal of encouraging strong social bonds among friends and faculty. The dining hall is also wired for audio/visual needs, also allowing it to serve as a venue for presentations and other events.
The Dining Porch and Terrace
On nice days, we roll open the giant "garage door" windows and dine al fresco on the dining porch. This porch seats about 30-40 people at a time and continues onto the terrace of the building. From this porch, students and staff enjoys a wonderful view of the Quad, flanked by Eskind Hall, Jan Carell Field House and Jim & Jan Carell Hall.
The Grand Lobby is a glass-enclosed walkway and gathering space that connects the Learning Commons and Administrative Wing with the Dining Hall. Staff and students enter from the Lower School on one side and the Quad on the other. The bright lobby features a wide-plank wood ceiling with skylights and a terrazo-tile floor with an inset of the Currey Ingram Academy logo.
The Anne Potter Wilson Learning Commons Think of a library. Now, erase everything you just thought of. This interactive, high-tech, collaborative space is anything but a place to be quiet. Serving grades K-12, the Learning Commons features the latest in interactive technologies, age-appropriate print collections, gathering spaces with flexible furniture, cozy nooks, collaboration areas, sensory activities, table gaming and interactive digital gaming.
The Learning Commons is a place where students can come to connect, dream, plan and create almost anything they can imagine. It is divided into two areas - one for K-6, and the other for grades 7-12, with a central circulation desk dividing the two. It also includes two classrooms equipped with touch-screen smart boards, a 3D production lab, and a board room equipped with virtual field trip technology that allows students to interact with students and staff from communities and organizations around the world. Our technology integration staff is housed in this space, alongside our library media services staff.
Westminster Tower
This tower honors our founding and 34 years housed in and supported by Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville. The tower is visible across campus and includes digital Carillon bells that can be programmed to play like bells and to play music, like the school alma mater.
The Memorial Room
Housed in the base of Westminster Tower, this will be a living history, interactive space for students, staff, and other CIA community members to immerse themselves in the past, present and future stories of Currey Ingram Academy. We look forward to sharing more about this space with you soon.
The Administrative Wing As you come in the front doors of the building off of Magnolia Circle, you enter the reception area. This is where Admission guests come for meetings and tours, as well as where all visitors come to meet with the Head of School and Development, Communications, Events/Logistics, and Business Office administrators. This space also includes an area for Currey Ingram Parent Organization volunteers to gather and work on projects.
Naming opportunities still exist for spaces within this building (and others around campus). Contact Director of Development Shannon Polk for more information.
